Fraser Island Elopement

Alicia & Brent | Intimate Kingfisher Bay Elopement

This is the first elopement I’ve featured and I want more! Alicia and Brent were married at Kingfisher Bay on Fraser Island and it was intimate, gorgeous and relaxed – everything they wanted for their wedding day. Jennifer McCue Photography has effortlessly captured Alicia and Brent’s relaxed nature and love, along with the unique landscape of Fraser Island, in her light and natural style. I can definitely see why eloping is becoming more and more popular!

Fraser Island Elopement

How and where did you meet? Tell us your love story!

We met just over 9 years ago in our local RSL. It used to be the place to go every Friday night when we were young. I was out with a few friends from work when one of them introduced me to Brent (My future husband!). I was that giddy little 18-year-old that thought he was just everything. Of course we made sure we went the following Friday night. One thing led to another and 9 years later we found ourselves getting married and building the house of our dreams together. We are now expecting our first little bundle of joy in July 2017.

Describe the proposal:

Brent is a bloke’s bloke. He likes the simple things. We love going up the beach four-wheel driving and this would be a regular weekend outing. One night we went to Bribie Island to get fish and chips for dinner and Brent insisted on going up the beach. He is normally so easy going but he just really wanted to go for a drive up the beach. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. We pulled up facing the beach. Brent was obviously (not to me at the time) quite nervous as he must have got out and emptied his bladder numerous times. On one of these occasions he returned to the seat and knelt on one knee and pulled out the most perfect ring and asked me to marry him. I couldn’t believe my dreams had finally come true. He then got out and grabbed a bottle of red wine we had brought together whilst on a winery tour in Melbourne from the back of the car. He forgot to bring a bottle opener. He scrounged around in the car to see what he could find. Brent resorted to using a tent peg he found in the back! He was pounding the cork with the tent peg when suddenly the cork plummeted down into the wine bottle and out burst an abundance of red wine. It landed straight in his face and all over the ceiling of the car. It was definitely a night I will never forget. It was just perfect, so us!

Where did you get married?

We got married at Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fraser Island. We originally had a venue booked in Samford for September 2017. On one of our annual trips to Fraser we decided that we couldn’t get married anywhere else. This was where our wedding had to be. We have been on numerous camping trips to Fraser Island together and Brent has been on a few fishing trips with the boys too. I used to go on family holidays to Kingfisher Bay Resort when I was young. We decided then and there we are going to elope to Fraser Island and the planning began.

Your dress and bouquet were stunning!

I was in absolute love with my dress and my flowers. I decided that because we were cutting costs so much on our wedding by eloping I wanted to splurge on my dress. I fell in love with this dress as soon as I tried it on. It was so worth spending the extra money, as whenever I look back at our gorgeous photos I love my dress even more. My flowers were amazing also. I sent through a few pictures of bouquets I liked and the girls at Bay Flowers put this stunning bouquet together. It was better than I could have imagined. They were perfect!

The Ceremony:

We had a simple beach ceremony. We were able to walk down from our room to the most perfect location. We timed the tides perfect so we still had a nice amount of water behind us with a few boats to add a little extra touch.

Tell us about the reception:

As it was just us two we organised to have our intimate reception at a nice little secluded spot just of the side of the Seabelle restaurant. Our waiters were wonderful. They kept coming out to check if we needed anything and the food was amazing. I often still crave that Beetroot Brownie even now. Our wedding planner set our table up with some candles, vase, iPod dock, etc. We literally just had to arrive.

Jennifer McCue Photography did a wonderful job at capturing your wedding!

We chose Jen to be our photographer as her photos on her page were exactly what we wanted. We were more than pleased. She is amazing at what she does. She made us feel so comfortable and did her upmost to make our day perfect. Brent cut through his Achilles tendon the month before our wedding and was on crutches for our ceremony and photos, so we didn’t have photos with a moon boot. Jen was so patient and helped prep my dress for every photo. She knew the best places to take us and was open to any suggestions that we had.

What was your biggest indulgence?

My dress!

What did you save the most on and how?

The reception as it was just the two of us.

What’s your favourite memory from your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle to the most perfect man, with this look of pure love and happiness spread across his face.

What did you do for your honeymoon?

We spent three nights at Kingfisher Bay Resort at the time of our wedding. We are also planning a holiday to Hawaii and America in 2018.

Describe your wedding day in three words:

Perfect, stress-free, amazing
